A BRIEF HISTORY
As a sport rhythmic gymnastics first appeared and formed in the USSR during the 1940’s. In 1945 All-Union section of rhythmic gymnastics was created
and then reformed in 1963 into USSR Federation. In the end of 1940’s classification program and rules of competition were formed. Since 1949 annual
USSR championships were held, since 1965 – rhythmic gymnastics competitions for USSR Cup, since 1966 – All-Union children’s championships. The

formation and development of rhythmic gymnastics are connected with the work of pedagogues and trainers M.T. Okunev, A.N. Larionova, U.N. Shishkareva,
V.S. Zinchenko, A.M. Semenova – Neypak, athletes A.R. Bashnina, V.K. Sivokhina, L.B. Nazmutdinova, E.V. Biruk and others. In the end of 1950’s – beginning of 1960’s, after the showmanship of Soviet gymnasts
among
other countries, rhythmic gymnastics was recognized by

the International Federation of Gymnastics (FIG) sport. Since 1963 FIG holds world championships
during odd years: since beginning of 1970’s largest international competitions are organized – for Intervision Cup, prizes of newspaper “Student
Tribune”(NRB), “March 8th”(Czech SSR), “Golden Hoop”(USSR). Rhythmic gymnastics is developed mostly in socialist countries, as well as in France,
Federal Republic of Germany, Italy, USA and others.
